Why Downtown McKinney and Bishop Arts Are Becoming Some of the Most Desirable Places to Live in North Texas

In a metroplex that seems to move faster every year, people are starting to crave something different. Not necessarily more square footage or a bigger house… but a lifestyle that feels a little slower, more connected, and honestly, a little more human.

And apparently, North Texas is delivering exactly that.

Recently, both Downtown McKinney and Bishop Arts District landed on a national list of the best neighborhoods and small towns for a “slow Sunday.” Downtown McKinney ranked No. 47, while Bishop Arts came in at No. 48.

The idea behind the ranking was simple: where can people slow down, walk around, grab coffee, browse local shops, sit on a patio, and actually enjoy where they live without feeling rushed?

Honestly… it makes complete sense why these two areas made the list.

Downtown McKinney has quietly become one of the most sought-after lifestyle hubs in Collin County. The historic square, brick streets, local restaurants, coffee shops, wine bars, boutiques, and year-round events create the kind of environment people are actively searching for right now. It feels connected. Walkable. Local. And in a region growing as quickly as DFW, that’s becoming harder to find.

You can spend an entire Sunday there without ever getting back in your car. Coffee in the morning, shopping in the afternoon, patio dinner at night, live music somewhere in between. It has this balance of charm and energy without feeling overwhelming.

And then there’s Bishop Arts.

If Downtown McKinney gives small-town charm, Bishop Arts gives creative city energy. Tucked into Oak Cliff, the neighborhood has built a reputation around independent restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries, cocktail bars, and locally owned storefronts that feel completely different from the cookie-cutter shopping centers you see everywhere else.

What’s interesting is this shift says a lot about what buyers are prioritizing right now.

People still care about the house itself, of course. But more and more, they’re also paying attention to the lifestyle around it. Walkability. Community feel. Local businesses. Weekend atmosphere. Places that don’t feel overly manufactured.

That’s part of why cities like McKinney continue getting national attention, including recently being named the top real estate market in the country.

The way I see it, buyers today are chasing two things at the same time: convenience and connection. Neighborhoods that can offer both are standing out in a big way.

If you’ve been thinking about moving within DFW and want help figuring out which areas actually fit your lifestyle, not just your budget, I’d love to help. Whether you’re looking for walkability, more space, better schools, or just a different pace of life, there are some really incredible pockets of North Texas worth paying attention to right now.
